An elderly elephant reunites her daughter and grandchild after 12 years of separation in a highly touching scenario. The lovely scene occurred at Zoo Halle in Germany, and it demonstrates how friendly elephants can be.

Pori, a 39-year-old elephant, and Tana, her 19-year-old daughter, were reunited in an emotional reunion. They haven’t seen one other in more than a decade. Nonetheless, as the event demonstrates, their love for each other has not waned.

The senior elephant’s excitement was compounded by the fact that she was seeing her two grandkids, Tamika, 4, and Elani, 1, for the first time. Pori and Tana emotionally caressed their trunks, and the daughter rushed to show her two children to her adoring mother. However, the way they greet each other appears to be something they’ve known for a long time.

Pori who was born in Zimbabwe in 1981, first arrived in Germany in 1983, at the Magdeburg Zoo. She lived here until 1997, when she was moved to the Tierpark Berlin, as part of a breeding program. Tana, born in 2001, was her first calf.

Elephants, unlike the bulk of wild animals, are incredibly sociable. The herd is commanded by a dominant female known as the matriarch. She is really important in her family’s lives. While the bulls normally leave the herd after a few years, the ladies stay together for life, and their relationship is unrivaled in the wilderness.

“Pori’s arrival in Halle is an important step in modern elephant husbandry,” the zoo director – Dennis Muller said in a statement. “In the future, all elephant herds in European zoos should be cared for in such natural family structures. Today we have come a great deal closer to this goal.”
