Samantha Ramos and her husband adopted Reese earlier this month. Despite their previous experience with their second dog, Roxx, it was evident early on that Reese was not the same.

Ramos told The Dodo, “She didn’t appear responsive to anything I was saying.” “We had a feeling she was deaf.” I told the vet about it, and he verified it.”

Ramos has been more than willing to change her training technique to accommodate Reese’s hearing loss. But when it comes to the fundamentals of being a dog, the adorable puppy has already learned a few things.

Ramos was at home with Reese and Roxx one day when the two dogs started playing together. Roxx began barking at her younger sister in a pleasant manner, and Reese reacted in kind.

The only difference was that she didn’t say anything.

Ramos decided to film a video to show off Reese’s original invention of quiet barking:

@samanthas.ramos who’s gonna tell her 🥺 #dogsofttiktok #deafdog ♬ original sound – Samantha Ramos

If Reese is barking to get a response, it works. And despite not making a sound, she seems so proud for figuring out a way of getting attention.

Reese hasn’t stopped studying since then, which is quite an accomplishment in and of itself.

“She’s learned how to actually bark now,” Ramos added, “but she alternates between her quiet and her loud bark.”
