For The Second Time The Horse Survives A Life Threatening Situation

Logan, a lovely white horse, has seen his life turned upside down.

Logan was in a known Louisiana “death pen” earlier this year, a site where undesirable horses wind up immediately before being hauled across the border to be slaughtered.

Thankfully, a caring woman intervened and saved him. But he was only secure for a few months until he needed to be rescued once more.

“This lady lives about 60 miles from us, and she just had to sell all of her horses due to family difficulty,” Jamie Lee Robinson, founder and CEO of OPKIT Kitty Sponsorship Program and Tails Up No-Kill Animal Haven by OPKIT, said to The Dodo.

Robinson has been working to find homes for hundreds of shelter cats, but she also has experience training and rescuing horses.

“I saw Logan’s image on Facebook late one night and knew he was the one,” she added. “I had a feeling.”

Robinson was ecstatic to adopt Logan because she had a strategy in mind.

Last February, a skeletal and exhausted horse had been found running loose along a highway in Florida.

The horse, now known as Starlight, had been confiscated by the sheriff’s department, then spent week after week in holding at the county shelter.

Robinson explained, “They needed a rescue group to take her.” “She wasn’t in good enough health to be adopted. They advertised and begged for a horse rescue group to accept this horse all over Facebook, but no one responded.”

That’s when Robinson made the decision to bring a horse into the cat sanctuary.

“I had to rescue her since the horse was about to go to a county auction,” Robinson explained. “We had a little pasture, but we weren’t really prepared for horses, so I started about constructing a modest barn… Starlight arrived frail, wary of strangers, suspicious, and with an old scar across her nose from a chain.”

Robinson constructed a home for Starlight while she was also building up their relationship. “I spent months working with her, establishing trust,” she said. “She became happy and healthy, but horses aren’t meant to live alone.”

So something clicked when Robinson saw Logan’s picture. And she moved quickly.

“I bought Logan sight unseen, right away, not something I would normally do, but I didn’t want him to get away,” Robinson said. “I knew he was right for Starlight.”

Robinson’s intuition turned out to be spot-on.

On Tuesday, Robinson remarked, “He just came a couple of days ago.” “And they fell in love right away. Logan was quiet and soothing to Starlight, who was overjoyed and thrilled.”

Starlight and Logan have stalls exactly next to each other, and they’ll be able to spend the remainder of their lives together at the sanctuary.

“They will always be here with us. Both of them have found their everlasting homes “Robinson said.

On Facebook, Robinson told a large group of ecstatic fans: “Our adorable new baby boy has arrived. Starlight and he are in love.”

Robinson said that horses are herd animals, so she realized she’d have to locate Starlight a companion. However, the horses’ fast bonding must have something to do with their personalities.

“Logan is a very playful, confident horse,” Robinson said. “Starlight is insecure and hesitant — so they are the perfect pair.”
