Two Good Samaritans were taking a leisurely stroll in the lovely, verdant Australian countryside when they couldn’t help but notice something peculiar up ahead.

They may have missed her if they had merely looked. However, as they turned to investigate, they discovered a scared tiny koala clinging desperately to a gray fencepost.

The Good Samaritans instantly asked for knowledgeable support, and Noah&Lil Woodend Wildlife Shelter’s Mel Fraser and Karl Dawson soon arrived.

Fraser and Dawson had to take quick action since they were concerned that the nosy cows beyond the fence would accidentally hurt the koala.

According to Fraser, “We knew we had to try and divert them while Karl climbed through the fence to collect her.” A seemingly simple chore, yet the mud was deep!

Fraser and Dawson, trained wildlife rescuers, gently removed the koala from between the wire fencing and the post. Afterward, they brought her back to their shelter, where she could recover safely.

The rescuers could tell the Koala, whom they began calling Merci, was exhausted from her ordeal. Nevertheless, Merci adapted well to their care and began eating and regaining her strength.

Fraser and Dawson limited human contact with Merci because it is a wild animal that will be released. Even though they only had brief interactions with her, Merci’s vivacious personality nonetheless managed to come through.

Fraser said, “Merci is a nice girl. She likes to sniff the leaves we give her, and she soon lets us know whether she likes them or not.

Fraser and Dawson are incredibly appreciative of Merci’s second opportunity and the Good Samaritans’ quick thinking. Merci will be returned to her original location after spending around two weeks under their care.

Fraser urged people to phone their local wildlife agency if they saw any animals in need. “We are very grateful that she was found,”
