Puppy Left Alone In The Woods Waiting For Someone To Notice Him

Hank wasn’t a puppy at all; he was already 8 months old when a kind stranger discovered him in the woods. The lonely dog appeared unconcerned by the man approaching him and sat perfectly still on a broken dog bed instead of galloping about the forest with young exuberance.

He was surrounded by his old toys and an unopenable sealed bag of dog food, but his expression betrayed a desperate need for help.

The Good Samaritan called their local animal shelter, which dispatched staff members to the scene immediately to rescue Hank. They were worried that he might become aggressive during the rescue since he was in survival mode but were pleasantly surprised to find that he had a different demeanor.

“He was nothing but love from the moment they got him,” Rosa Fond, founder of Humans and Animals United, told The Dodo. “Everybody says that he’s the sweetest dog.”

After being saved, Hank was taken to the veterinarian by the shelter staff, where it was discovered that he had a fractured leg. Doctors determined that Hank sustained this injury more than two weeks prior to being rescued.

They said that’s why he didn’t go out of his bed in the woods. Simply put, it was too painful.

Humans and Animals United was contacted by the shelter because Hank’s injuries required major treatment.

Fond agreed right away to take him under their wing and provide for his urgent medical needs.

She brought the puppy to a neighborhood veterinarian clinic, where he is now spending some time. Hank needs to put on a little weight before his next, life-altering operation. He is currently enjoying the regular affection and cuddling from the veterinary team.

Hank has received several adoption requests since since Humans and Animals United posted about him on their Facebook page, but according to Fond, no one has been chosen yet.

Before he is completely adoptable, “he’s going to have a little bit of a road to go through,” said Fond. “But now that he’s protected, he won’t ever, ever be hurt again.”
