Some puppies make great guard dogs, but Jakey, a 6-year-old dog, utilizes her abilities to guard something a little strange.
Jakey sets a more practical objective whereas most dogs keep guard over the house. When her family is away, she keeps an eye on the bread. Jakey’s mother, Katrina Frank, told The Dodo, “She started this four years ago when we moved to our property. She would hide the bread each time we left.
Jakey has an excellent nose for baked goods. The second her mom walks out the door, Jakey sniffs out the plastic-wrapped loaf, and she will stop at nothing until the bread is safe.
“We have a bread box so she likes to hop up and pull it out of there,” Frank said. “If I leave it in the pantry instead, she nudges the door open and gets it out. I’ve put it in the refrigerator before and she has opened the door to get to it.”
Jakey has been a bread guardian for years, but she’s never ever had a bite. Additionally, she ensures that none of the other animals in the home do.
“She loves to place it behind the sofa and lie next to it. Otherwise, mother stores it in my bedroom’s closet, Frank replied. Since we use it so frequently, I guess she believes it to be the most significant item to us.
When Jakey’s mother comes back, the dog shows her the bread while wearing a guilty expression. Frank is accustomed to Jakey’s eccentricities and is aware that the bread will never go missing for an extended period of time. Frank stated, “I’ve always been like, ‘Oh, that’s Jake being Jake.
Jakey won’t stop working even if her family runs out of bread: “If I’m out of bread, she moves on to baked items,” Frank remarked. She once removed a Tupperware full of cookies off the counter and discretely hid each of the 17 without breaking any. She accompanied me to each one.
Jakey switches to protecting the butter whenever the household runs out of any kind of starch.
As long as Jakey is around, Frank knows for certain that their meal is safe.
